Audi prepares a compact sport coupe

On a motor show in Detroit company Audi has presented experimental compact coupe on electrodraught — Audi E-tron Detroit Showcar. The novelty is the continuer of concept Audi E-Tron constructed on the basis of Audi R8 and presented on motor show in Frankfurt in the autumn of 2009.

However, the new prototype is more compact than first "E-tron" and it is easier: on the sizes new coupe it is comparable to golf class hatchbacks, and it is equipped only by two electromotors.

Engines rotate only back wheels: their total power makes 201HP that allows to disperse 1350-kgs car (the first E-Tron weighed 1600 kgs) to 100 km/h for 5,9 sec.

The heaviest detail of the new concept car is a block li-ionic of batteries which 399 kgs weigh. Storage batteries are placed practically on the car centre that has allowed developers to keep optimum balance — 40:60 in favour of a back axis. A stock of a course at this car — 155 miles (250 km).

As experts consider, Audi E-tron Detroit Showcar is the predecessor serial coupe which could make competition BMW 1-Series with the same type of a body. Originally new model Audi will be offered, most likely, with traditional power-plants, and the version on electrodraught if will appear on sale, only in some years.

On the largest North American motor show starting in Detroit company Audi has shown to general public new generation of flagman model A8. We will remind, that earlier a novelty already showed within the limits of the closed display in Miami but then admire on A8 the elite could only.

New Audi A8 in Detroit

Originally Audi A8 it will be equipped 6 and 8-cylinder turbodiesels in volume of 3,0 and 4,2 litres with power of 247 and 345HP accordingly, and also 4,2-l petrol V8 power of 366HP. As transmission the new automatic 8-step transmission of company ZF will act.

Also it is necessary to note occurrence of new generation of system MMI, system of balancing of energy of braking, and also the modernised system of a full drive quattro and chassis Audi Drive Select including a dynamic steering and electronic adjustment of rigidity of shock-absorbers.

In the equipment list there will be new antiemergency system Pre Sense, adaptive cruise-control, the chamber of night vision, system of recognition of pedestrians, and also the newest headlights of head light executed on light-emitting diode technology.

Concept car BMW ActiveE

The conceptual car under name BMW Concept ActiveE became first electric model BMW if not to take in calculation MINI E on which creation the Bavarian engineers also worked.

The Detroit concept car have equipped with the electric 170-strong motor, whose twisting moment reaches 248Nm. The charge li-ionic of batteries which have been developed together with firm SB LiMotive, suffices the car on 160 km of movement.

Hybrid car BMW Concept ActiveE
